When did the Gondola open?
The Christchurch Gondola was officially opened on 24 November 1992.

How long does the ride take?
On average the ride takes approximately 10 minutes to reach the top station. We have the ability to speed up and/or slow the ride down. Our top speed allows us to make the ride time 4 minutes 30 seconds.

How high is Mt Cavendish?
Mt Cavendish is 445 metres above sea level.

How far is it to the summit?
The horizontal length is 862 metres.

How many cabins are there?
We have 19 cabins, each one seats 4 people.

Where is the Gondola made?
The cableway system is a Doppelmayer 4-MG-D-185 detachable, made in Austria. The cabins are from CWA Construction and are made in Switzerland.

How long does the Bridle Path Walk take?
Allow 45 minutes to walk comfortably from the top station to the base station car-park.

Why does the cableway stop?
It is difficult for some guests to embark and disembark while the cableway is operating. We stop the cableway to allow them time to board safely.

How often does the Public Transport depart for the City?
Monday - Friday buses depart the Gondola base station, approximately every 15 minutes. After 6pm, on weekends and public holidays, buses operate every 30minutes.
